This is what my response has been mostly up until now! Except it wasn't a choice to slowly fade, it was me naturally backing away as his behaviour increasingly got creepier or frustrated me. Sometimes I think because it was so slow, and there were also moments he acted 'normal' when giving/ asking about work that makes it confusing and seemingly 'out of no where' for me when he throws a tantrum about it (also confusing for others on my team that don't see the tantrums but rather see friendly chat over coffee and wonder why I'm annoyed/cold suddenly).
I'm thinking if I pull this strategy it has to be a very fast and hard fade now. He'll throw a fit if he ever finds out, but hopefully he won't until way down the line or I will have already left.

Reddit gives horrible advice when it comes to corporate realities (most here don't have corporate 500 office jobs!). A guy twice your age trying to sleep with a 20 something girl a level beneath him (so, all the makings of sexual harassment and a lawsuit to the company) is a huge liability to HR and the company. HR handles stuff like this. The people saying "HR doesn't care, they only care about companies!" don't understand that protecting the company involves FIRING LIABILITIES like this. What he did ranges so very closely into sexual assault (as he's your "senior") that he will be fired. Report it!

They've really never heard of people being fired for sexual harassment? Oh to be so innocent...
And yes, companies protect themselves *by firing liabilities*. People don't seem to understand that it goes hand-in-hand.
The caveat here is that not every HR dept knows or cares to do their job properly, but unless OP'S company genuinely does not care and actively avoids doing anything about complaints, I agree with you.

HR works to protect the company. The company does not want an age/sexual harassment discrimination lawsuit stemming from a married man harassing an intern.
It actually places the company at risk and you'd have grounds for an EEOC filing otherwise, giving *everyone in corporate America* access to whatever the findings are. It's a huge scandal risk that is much, much easier resolved with a "hey buddy, clean out your desk, you're becoming a liability."
HR might actually care as it’s a liability against the business long term to keep him if anything comes of his actions, and if your manger likes you they might advocate for you. Make it HRs problem. Not yours. Best case scenario your moved off the team to a team away from him and offered the job long term. Worst case it’s a shit show and you leave which you’re already planning to do anyway- I think you’ve nothing to lose but a lot to gain here.

I would do a very slow fade if you just want to get to end unscathed.
I would gray rock him, give him one word answers, wait longer and longer to respond to his texts. Don't engage him any personal, private shit at all.
For the meeting, I would treat him as professionally and distant as any other colleague. Put your blinders on, take your beta blockers and deliver it straight.
Or…you know how sometimes you’re out grocery shopping with an older person and everybody seems friendlier and more talkative to them, and they respond really brightly back about the weather etc, but then it takes 5 minutes, 10 minutes to move again because nobody will shut up about the canned pineapples, and you’re just standing a pace behind with the cart, neutral face, waiting for them to stop yammering so you can drop your pineapple in the basket and proceed towards checkout:

What was the outburst about?? Just checking you didn’t do anything that may compromise you before taking next steps. Depending on that,
Report report and document, keep conversations to a minimum unless necessary for work, loop managers in cc whenever responding and set teams status as do not disturb
No honestly I did not prompt the outburst or say anything rude back, I basically gave him the silent treatment for a good while and walked off when nothing I was saying was calming him down. Later on he tried to make an inside work joke with me on Teams like he normally does and I was confused. But it's honestly not uncommon behaviour, we have someone else on the team who has done the same back/forth. This workplace's whole dynamic with older higher-up men feels toxic! Thanks for the communication tips. I'll definitely keep interactions formal because they have not been so far. And everything cc'd.

I disagree with some of the comments here.
I do think its entirely possible HR would care - if only to protect the company. I would put together an email and all texts and forward to them and let them know the situation. As it is an internship going to HR on your way out would be a good reason to end it. If HR are decent they will have your back. There was recently a post in the AskHR sub where an intern gave some good advice to a business and HR said if we were to hire anybody we'd want somebody like that despite being an intern. (It wasn't related to SA/SH, but I'm.using it as an example of decent HR recognising talent and standing behind talent despite their role.)
For the meeting - stand at the top of the room and engage everyone else in the room. When he speaks, address everybody else but him. If he tries to do a 121 just shut it down with we will discuss later and carry on leading the room. Practice this a few times before hand. Make sure you enter the room with a few people. Sit away from him. When time is up, make sure your laptop is closed and you step out immediately, wait around the corner of the room or stand and speak to another colleague to discuss business. E.g speak with Sharon on her way out the room to discuss xyz. Leave with her.
On Teams/text etc. Do not respond to anything not business related. At all. Put your phone to focus, hide his chat. Wait hours on end. Give one word replies if you really must. Or ask him if you need any input from his side regarding business project xyz. You want a paper trail of you being nothing but professional.
Just wanted to say from one 25 yo single woman with severe anxiety in corporate, I was also in your position. But instead of an older married man, it was a 23 yo frat boy. He crossed a line 100% inappropriately touching me out of no where drunk and then made the entire team alienate me in front of executives to the point my own team members would look away when I tried to say hey on a morning zoom meeting.
Id say you have two choices:
Leave and find a new job.
Go to HR with email and text proof. Especially whatever text about an outburst he had.
What in the actual fuckery... That is horrifying I'm so sorry that happened to you and especially that your entire team reacted the way they did towards you. That's actually sick... Hope he finds some wet cement to step in while wearing new nice shoes... everyday for the rest of his life.
Thank you, honestly the job market is trash so quitting isn't very much of an option... So I will just stick through the pain for two more months of the internship and reject any offer of return/ leave no notice. But right now my main worry is just the day-to-day meetings!

It is going to be so hard, but you can only act with grace until to end. Maybe say a little prayer every time you sit down, I used to do this with Frat Boy.
There actually is a woman older than me and she scares the living shit out of me! In a good way... Not to trauma dump but both of a my female managers actually were quite intimidating but this girl was incredibly sweet and motherly towards me despite carrying that tough persona.
Only problem - she sits cross the entire building as far away from me as possible since we are on different teams. I could try to coordinate to have some lunches with her maybe.
In terms of male leaders - I have my other manager who sits by right next to this creep...
Honestly... Now typing this out I think part of the reason he was so confident being weird was because the manager witnessed this from a distance, or on off-days that our manager wasn't around. So it was an 'it is what it is' approach from leadership, or a 'when the cats away the mice are screaming at the interns'. Actually a huge yikes moment for me...

Do everything with a formal professional sheen around this guy.
He acts as expected? “Ok, cool, moving onto…”
He throws a wobbly tantrum like a teenager, over stuff in or not in work bounds. “Well. That happened. Do you need a minute?”. Be detached. Unplugged or unplugging from this unhinged weirdo behavior in the office from a senior colleague.
Make notes about it, take screenshots as you can, send this stuff to a proton.me or outside webmail address you make JUST for retaining dates and times and info from work. Because I agree HR is primarily for the company, it’s still nice to have a paper trail that YOU hold, in case you don’t manage to escape clean from this job.
I think part of getting through the next 2 months is doing what you can, reasonably, and letting the stress/dread be its own thing that you leave at work at 5pm. That sounds easier said than done, I understand. Can you get support from an EAP 3-session thing by calling a 1-800 number from work? Look and see what your benefits are, you might be able to talk through the anxiety with an outside objective counselor by phone to just let a lot of this stress safely out.
It’s completely unfair that they put interns in this environment without strong mentoring safety support boundaries. You got unfortunately assigned the office creeper. Just because other people accept he’s like this, or have blindspots up on it, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t affect you. It totally affects you because there usually isn’t any training for ‘what do I do to be professional with an absolute nutter butter who has the capacity to fire me?’.
I’m sorry you didn’t get a decent person. Get your beta blockers dialed in, take it one day, one assignment at a time. The anxiety lies to us and says ‘this is what everyday is like, everywhere, you must be the problem if it bothers you so much!’, which is wrong as two left shoes.

No real advice unfort but it sounds like you might be the 3rd or 4th in a long line up of female interns that he's picked to 'teach'. Ick. F HR. The best time for you, like me, is always after your shift is over...you can sigh relief...and dread in the am.
Start documenting today, everything, keep the receipts...HR expects a timeline of events, when/how/who ...be as descriptive as possible when keeping these notes...in my job to get any action to happen took 2 years of emails/documentation and eventually that was handled but its ALOT of work and extremely stressful
In this case it sounds like he will do everything to bring you down wth him! You are not required by any law, HR handbooks etc. to tolerate this harrassment...the minute these weird inappropriate behaviors started you should have said something but since unfortunately most do wait to make complain...it is not HR but rather complain to an 'ethics complaint hotline' or similar
This forces an investigation by an outside party not your immediate HR office therefore avoiding conflict of interest...if its not an option just bring your notes/texts up to manager? Then it really depends on if he wants to handle it or go directly HR

It’s possible HR is completely oblivious. Creepers often know to only creep where there are no witnesses. (Not an accident) It’s up to you if you’d like HR to intervene or if you’d like to coast til it ends and find employment elsewhere.
